Winfield Summer Series Barrel Racing 2026
A Summer Behind the Camera in Winfield
The Winfield Summer Series became a regular part of my photography calendar this year.
From my first jackpot in May through to the Winfield Summer Series Finals on September 22, I had the opportunity to return throughout the season and photograph the horses, riders and community that make these local barrel races what they are.
One of my favorite parts of covering the same series throughout the summer was getting to recognize familiar competitors and horse-and-rider teams. Rather than photographing just one evening, I was able to document different runs, different conditions and plenty of moments both inside and outside the arena.
The 2026 Finals
The season wrapped up with more than 80 runs at the Winfield Summer Series Finals. Along with photographing the action in the arena, I also captured the award presentations and offered a limited video option for competitors looking for another way to remember their final run of the season.
After months of summer jackpots and thousands of photographs, the finals were a fitting way to close out my 2026 Winfield coverage.
Why I Keep Coming Back
Local agricultural and western events are an important part of rural Alberta, and I enjoy being able to document them. For me, event photography is about more than the fastest run or the perfect turn around a barrel. It is also about preserving the horses, competitors, atmosphere and small moments that make up the season.
Thank you to the Winfield Summer Series organizers, competitors and everyone who supported my photography throughout the year. It was a pleasure spending part of my summer behind the camera in Winfield.
