A Weekend of Rodeo, Community & Western Tradition
Another incredible Ugetuk Days is in the books, and what a weekend it was.
From the action in the arena to the parade through town and all the community festivities in between, Ugetuk Days brought together so many of the things that make our rural Alberta communities special.
I had the opportunity to spend the weekend documenting it all.
Friday Night: Bulls & Barrels
The weekend kicked off Friday evening with Bulls & Barrels, and there was no shortage of action.
Between the bull riding, barrel racing, competitors, livestock, and spectators filling the grounds, Friday night set the tone for a full weekend of western sport and community.
There is something particularly fun about photographing an event once the evening starts settling in, the arena lights come on, and the energy builds with every run and ride.

Saturday & Sunday: Canadian Girls Rodeo Association
The rodeo continued throughout Saturday and Sunday with competitors from the Canadian Girls Rodeo Association (CGRA) taking over the arena.
Across the weekend, I had the opportunity to photograph the competitors, their horses, and all those split-second moments that make rodeo such an exciting sport to capture.
Behind every photograph from the arena is a competitor and horse who have put in the work long before they ever entered through the gate, and I'm always grateful for the opportunity to preserve a small piece of that story.
The Ugetuk Days Parade & Community Festivities
Saturday morning also brought one of the weekend's community highlights: the Ugetuk Days parade.
From floats and horses to families lining the route, the parade was a chance to turn the camera away from the arena for a little while and capture the people and traditions surrounding the weekend.
Throughout Ugetuk Days, I also photographed some of the other festivities and candid moments happening around the community.
Those photographs are an important part of the collection too. Rodeo may provide plenty of dramatic images, but it's the people gathering together that tell the bigger story of the weekend.

Whether you were competing in the arena, riding in the parade, volunteering behind the scenes, cheering from the stands, or simply spending the weekend enjoying everything Ugetuk Days had to offer, thank you for allowing me to document a piece of it.
